Family Fest off to a good start
Today the volunteers will start Backyard Bible Clubs, light construction, ESL, international student ministry, block parties, and much more. As local leaders, we are very grateful for these many volunteers who have come to minister in Jesus' name. We are also thankful to Pine Valley Church in Wisconsin Dells and River of Life Church in Portage for being the two main host churches for this event. Their vision to reach the lost in the Dells is a blessing to all of those who are involved.

Ministry Coordinators, please come at 1:00 p.m. on Sinday
This Sunday, July 19, our orientation for Family Fest will begin at 2:00 p.m. With that in mind, we would like to remind all our ministry coordinators to arrive by 1:00 p.m. The orientation will be at Antiqua Bay Hotel and Resort which is located in Wisconsin Dells right by Burger King.
As ministry coordinators, this time will be important for you to meet the people who will be serving with you and give them the assignments which you will be overseeing. We encourage you to bring poster board with the name of your ministry so you can be easily identified when the big group breaks into smaller groups at the end of our orientation.
If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at mark@cbaow.net. May the Lord richly bless you for your service and leadership.
See you Sunday at 1:00 p.m.,
Mark

2. Pray for the 86 volunteers registered nationwide and the 20 volunteers registered locally as they make preparation for their specific ministries.
3. Pray for the local leaders as they begin final planning.
Thank you for your prayers If you want any updates on planning or information, please call the CBA office at 608-825-9946.

Planning Meetings May 21st
To date, there are 82 volunteers from around the nation registered (Kentucky, Georgia, Maryland, Alabama, and South Carolina)!
Lodging - 2 groups requested church housing (17 people). Kristy Carr will contact Trinity Baptist Church directly to set up housing at the church in Reedsburg. River of Life has agreed to handle any overflow.
Partnership - we want to provide our volunteers with info that will better prepare them, and that they can take home to their churches and more effectively share what they did and what the Dells is about. Kristy will be giving volunteers a CD of pictures from the week and Sherry and Truitt Eason will be putting together a volunteer booklet called "Lifeguard Handbook". The CBA will print 200 of them. We'll include: a history of the Dells and church planting efforts, stats and info about the area, specific prayer requests and needs, emergency phone numbers (clinics) and contact info, map (including all mission project locations), cultural indoctrination (for Dells and internationals), how to reach WI people (sharing your faith, why are you doing this, etc.), and block party basics. Every volunteer will also have a name tag with some contact numbers on the back. Maps - Jay Heesch is going to look into getting good maps for us.
Headquarters - we'll be using Jay Heesch's office space as headquarters that week. It is located in Sweeney's Dental by the high school in the Dells.

Liability release forms are also needed and included in the registration process. The CBA will send $10 to the WMU for each t-shirt.
NAMB New Work Assistance Funds will contribute $200/block party. What Do You Have Planned?
For example, Nikki Z. and I were thinking that holding ESL lessons for international adults near Lake Delton (Ridgewood Apts.) WHILE holding a backyard Bible club for their kids would be a great combo.
So, would you please share what you have planned?
For ESL Ministries (and these are only in wet cement right now;-):
M0n-Wed 4-6pm ESL in Ridgewood apt complex near Lake Delton
Mon-Wed 7-10pm Conversation Clubs/Servant Evangelism for International Students in Dells
Mon-Thurs 8-10am ESL in Dells (location TBD - the library is already booked up, so I don't know about this one yet...praying God will provide!)
04 May 2009
Ministry Project Request Deadline - May 4
01 May 2009
April 15th Meeting Minutes
Pastor Jay Heesch shared some numbers to keep in mind:
3800 international students working in the Dells from Memorial Day through Labor Day
1800 Hispanic workers year round
2300 HoChunk natives
4000 anglo Dells residents
(plus 3.1 million tourists/year)
Bowman Park is not looking to be a good option for block parties, concerts, etc. It's not available on Sunday, and is only available for 2-hour time blocks. Several alternatives were discussed including Fireman's Park by Lake Delton (close to Little Mexico), Riverview Park (has numerous pavilions), and the field by the library.
Sunday schedule:
Following Sunday morning church service/prior to 2pm meeting - prayerwalking in the Dells
2pm - Kick-off meeting @ Antiqua Bay (this is the location where Pine Valley meets...seats approx 300); care bag assembling to follow
5pm - Block Party at Fireman's Park by Lake Delton (*fliers will need to be distributed in Little Mexico on Saturday and Sunday) - opportunity to invite guests to Backyard Bible clubs, ESL, etc. As we have an opportunity to minister to Hispanics, volunteers who speak Spanish would be most welcome!
Note: because the kick-off is being held in the Dells (not in Portage), and because the block party will be serving dinner as well, we thought it best to move this evening event up to 5pm instead of 7pm.
Existing Ministries w/Leaders:
1. Elderly Visitation - Anne Zinsmeister
2. Building & Grounds Light Construction @ River - Frank Vandersump
3. ESL Ministry - Caryn Jette
4. Block Parties - Paul & Kelly Zuelke
5. CEF Events - Johanna Wynn
6. County Fair - Paul & Kelly Zuelke
7. Backyard Bible Clubs - Nikki Zacijeck & ??
8. Prayerwalking - Mark Millman
9. Public Prayer Booth - Jay Heesch & ??
10. Care Packages - Zuelkes & possibly River's guest package team
Still need leaders for:
*11. Follow-Up (This is super HIGH priority! Pastor Bob will be asking someone about taking this on)
*12. Servant Evangelism (also a priority item)
13. Hotel Lobby Ministry
14. Waterpark Pavilion
ACTION ITEM FOR ALL MINISTRY LEADERS:
Fill out ministry spreadsheet indicating name of ministry, # of volunteers needed, location, time, addl resources & prep work required, and specific skillset needed. Pastor Bob will post this on the blog for our use.
Additional Notes for Each Ministry:
#3 ESL Ministry - Pine Valley's most successful time in the summer working with Hispanics in Little Mexico is 4-8pm; International students will not have a 'set' schedule...they often work late...will need to consider how to best minister to their needs.
#4 Block Parties - discussed possible locations (as listed above); discussed purpose of block party and possibility of holding a raffle and using raffle entry as 'registration' forms (also acknowledged that registration in Little Mexico may not be feasible); Jeanne W. shared that the WMU provide the funds for Block Party Trailer supplies.
#6 County Fair - Need approx 6 volunteers to help with set-up on Wednesday (checking on the time); Thursday will need volunteers to serve in 3 hour time blocks from 10am - 4pm.
#7 Backyard Bible Clubs - possible locations are Little Mexico and the HoChunk Wellness Center. Plus 2 other locations. Will probably need a 2-1/2 hour timeslot per location per day to be held Monday - Wednesday (maybe Thursday).
#8 Prayerwalking - as prayer is the foundation to this event, we'll plan to prayerwalk prior to the 2pm Sunday meeting (anyone on site can participate). We'll also have an opportunity to prayerwalk on Monday morning, and will encourage volunteers to find time daily to spend prayerwalking. Prayerwalking leader will provide locations and specific prayer requests, and print a simple prayer guide.
#9 Public Prayer Booth - Jay Heesch is checking into getting a permit for this on Broadway.
#10 Care Packages - planning for 500 bags; suggested we provide each volunteer's church with an item or two to collect (after the meeting, Kelly located in a catalog pre-packaged clear bags w/all the items we want to provide and logos printed on the bags...she'll be discussing with Kristy)
Celebration Dinner - Need to find a location since Bowman Park is out. Considering Paquette Park in Portage (only $20 fee to use and doesn't require going before a board for approval!) No one was assigned to this...anyone???
I know there was a lot discussed. Very hard to capture EVERYTHING! Let me know if I missed anything!

meeting with Dells pastor
I shared with Jay about partnering with him during Family Fest. I believe he was very open and I think he could also help us as he has built many relationships and already is familiar with a number of venues where they have hosted outreach events.
Just to let you know, I invited Jay to our April 15 planning meeting at River of Life. Some of his insight could really save us a lot of steps. At the same time we can help them in some significant ways through Family Fest.
I believe the Lord has placed Jay strategically in the Dells. I look forward to introducing him to the Family Fest planning team at our next meeting on April 15.

Teen Ministries?
I myself and a few other parents involved in the dells ministry have teen kids. From experience, they are the hardest group of people to evangelize, although, they are very influential to the "dark side." With all the people working on this venture, all the prayer, and God's great way of revealing, I think we can all come up with an effective ministry geared toward teens. Please pray and see what we can all come up with. Comment to this post if you have any ideas.
Thanks, and God bless,

Sharing FamilyFEST at Empower
1. Set up a display - there will be a lot of displays in what used to be called the Missions Mall. We can have a display (I've already emailed Karen Olson to reserve a table) with brochures and registration forms. If we have someone to man that table from time to time, that would be great. I requested that it be located next to the Literacy Missions display, so I can be there some of the time.
2. Powerpoint Slide - this would be shown during announcement times and before each session. They do not typically do announcements unless they pertain specifically to Empower...so we would not be able to do a verbal announcement.
3. Brochure on seats - since attendees do not get a packet, but only the Empower booklet, we would need to place any additional brochures on the seats before one of the main sessions. As Friday evening is the most attended session, that would be our best time to do that. David estimated 250 brochures would cover the room. I will be there and can work on that, but would really appreciate if someone else could lend a hand on Friday afternoon putting those brochures out.
That's it! Now for creating the brochures, powerpoint slide, and display board...anyone?

Prayer & Brainstorming Follow-Up - 3/4/09
AGENDA: Turn brainstorming into ministry ideas.
RULES:
#1 Unlike brainstorming, there ARE bad ideas.
#2 Lots of details and clarification should be discussed.
#3 Piggybacking is still allowed.
MINISTRY IDEAS:
1. English as a Second Language (Ministry Leader: Caryn Jette) - offer English classes to international workers preferably onsite at the resorts where they work. Library is also an option. End the week with a prayer breakfast/event for the workers.
ACTION: Talk to H.R. people at resorts. Find locations, optimum times for classes. See if there's an international organization/hub that all these workers go through for hiring, etc. (Caryn Jette)
2. Block parties (Ministry Leaders: Paul and Kelly Zuelke) - include clowning, face painting, balloon animals, in addition to other traditional block party 'stuff'. Also consider worship nights in conjunction with block parties.
ACTION: Find locations for block parties, including parks, Jellystone campground, Knucklehead/Tanger Outlet, HoChunk Casino, and The Wilderness. (Zuelkes)
ACTION: Find alternative locations in the event of inclement weather, not only for block parties but for larger worship nights. (Zuelkes) Check into EMS/Community Center. (Matt Graf)
3. Backyard Bible Clubs (Ministry Leader: ________)
ACTION: Contact Kayla Seamans at Trinity and the Evangelical Free Church starting in the Dells to determine best locations for these. (Mark Millman) Talk to Bob Turner's Mom. (Bob Turner)
4. CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship) Events - (Ministry Leader: Johanna Wynn) - due to conflict with the Columbia County Fair, Monday and Tuesday would be the best time for these events.
Note: We may borrow for either most/all of the week the "Muppet" costume. We'll need a t-shirt for the muppet guy:-)
ACTION: Contact Johanna to contact other C.E.F. agencies about other similar resources that would be available. (Bob Turner)
5. Columbia County Fair (Ministry Leaders: Paul and Kelly Zuelke - is this correct?)
6. Servant Evangelism (Ministry Leader: ________) - this is ministry work with no strings attached. There are 4 groups we're targeting: local residents, local business owners, international workers, and tourists. Some ideas suggested: Contact Family Social Services, International Organizations, and the Red Cross to find out specific needs and people in need.
ACTION: Look at kindness.com and brainstorm ideas. (everyone!)
7. Pavilion in the Waterpark (Ministry Leader: ________) - possibly at Mt. Olympus. This would basically be an indoor block party.
ACTION: Check on use of pavilion and what would/wouldn't be permitted. (Jason Zacijek)
8. Public Prayer Booth (Ministry Leader: ________)
ACTION: We didn't mention this in the meeting, but we may should check with the city on permits, etc. Wouldn't want anyone in a prayer booth on Main St. to get arrested!!! (WHO?)
9. Whisper Campaign - T-shirts will play a huge part. Lifeguard theme (Red shirts, white cross, white lettering "Lifeguard Ministry - Jesus Saved Me!"; include the website: www.dellschurch.com)
ACTION: We didn't mention this either...would making of t-shirts be in Kristy's ballpark? Discuss Monday!
10. Pow Wow Meeting (Leader: Bob Turner) - Sunday 2pm - meeting/pep rally for all missions workers - share the vision, the plan, discuss the culture (what's your testimony in 30 seconds w/out churchy words).
ACTION: Ask Randy Smith about childcare during the meeting. (Nikki Zacijek)
11. Care Packages (Ministry Leader: _____________) - these are bags that would be given out to all that we come in contact with that week. This would include a "Best of the Dells" booklet for the tourists that would include family-friendly activities; possibly coupons to some of these locations. This would also include a business card w/website. Additional items needed: sun block, chapstick, water w/either sticker or custom label including verse of scripture and website, gum or mints, lotion, hand sanitizer, tissues, bug spray, keepsake, and clear bags.
Assembling of bags could begin on Sunday following the Pow Wow meeting, before the evening of worship. We need bags ready to give out at the worship concert on Sunday evening.
ACTION: Find a keepsake item, including ordering information, that can be included in our 'needs' list. (Paul Zuelke)
ACTION: Look into either custom labels or stick on labels for water bottles and other items. (Matt Graf & Paul Z.)
12. Outdoor Worship Service (Ministry Leader: ___________) - Sunday at 5pm w/block party. Possible worship nights through the week.
ACTION: Find location and check into all-week availability (park by Mobil gas station). Investigate costs of park rentals, permits, etc. (Aaron R.)
ACTION: Get Family Fest Events on the Wisconsin Dells Calendar (Caryn J.)
ACTION: Look into bands to play, including Trinity's worship team. (Aaron R. and Faith G., Bob T. follow up with Ben S.)
13. Prayerwalking (Ministry Leader: ________) - suggested everyone participate in this Monday morning, as well as other times of the week if desired.
14. Elderly Visitation (Ministry Leader: Anne Zinsmeister) - Youth choir from Kristy Carr's church may be able to sing for assisted living facilities or nursing homes. Others may want to visit these places or shut-ins. Coordinate with C.E.F. events to have kids make crafts that would be delivered to the elderly (decorated clay pots - add this item to needs list?)
ACTION: Check w/2nd Harvest Food bank (Jenn Selbach)
ACTION: Also not mentioned, contact facilities to coordinate choir and visitation times (Anne Z.)
15. Hotel Lobby Ministry (Ministry Leader: __________) - Make balloon animals for kids while parents are checking in and/or during continental breaksfast.
ACTION: Contact Kayla Seamans at Great Wolf/Ben Seamans about others they know who work in resorts in the Dells. (Mark M.) Follow-up to find hotels that would welcome this service. (Caryn J.)
16. River of Life Buildings and Grounds (Ministry Leader: Frank Vandersump) - Provide a list of light construction items that would help R.O.L.
ACTION: Investigate the cost and feasibility of having volunteers construct a handicap ramp. (Frank V.)
17. Follow-up! (Ministry leader: __________)
ACTION: Sell our congregation on follow up. (Bob Turner)
ACTION: Follow-up cards with business card tear-off need to be designed. Agreed that we'll use the same logo for everything as the t-shirts. Funded by CBA Church Planting. Talk to Kristy about logistics of this.
ACTION: Develop simplified New Believer's packet. (Faith G.) Include Bibles on needs list. Make pdf file included in packet available on the website. (Bob T.)
ADDITIONAL RESOURCES TO CONSIDER:
a. Funding - Vista Church in TX has committed to contributing $$ to a Dells Church plant. ($1000/mos)
b. Truitt & Sherry Easom will be staying in a camper in the Dells from May 15 through Aug 15. Truitt has web and computer skills. Sherry has secretarial skills. They can help with fliers/promotional materials. They will also be onsite!
ACTION: Assign them duties before, during, and after this event. (Mark Millman)
c. Chad & Sherry Ellis will arrive in June and will be helping with the Dells event.
ACTION: Assign them responsibilities. (Bob Turner)
ACTION: Begin scheduling times that you will need volunteers. Divide into morning, afternoon, and evening segments. (All Ministry Leaders)
NEXT MEETING: April 15th, 6-8pm at River of Life
